The surface the game is played on.
One decision sits behind every floor here: does the floor stay where it is laid? From permanent maple on LVL joists to a FIBA dismountable competition floor that can be hired out, every system starts from the same playing envelope and differs in how it meets the building.
Flooring systems
Choose the floor by how it has to live, not by thickness.
A squash court floor is specified once and lived with for a decade. The decision that actually matters is not the timber species — it is whether the assembly is fixed, demountable or temporary. That decides the substructure, the finished height you have to find in the building, and the routine the venue will run for the next ten years.
Three ways to meet the building
Fixed, demountable or temporary.
Almost every floor question is settled by this one distinction before the specification starts.
01 / Fixed
The court is the building.
Best playing characteristics and lowest cost per square metre over a long life. Needs a dedicated room and a slab that will not change use.
02 / Demountable
The court borrows the room.
Lays over the existing floor and lifts again. Adds a joint routine, storage and a taller finished height — and returns the hall to other uses.
03 / Temporary
The court is equipment.
Tiles that clip together over any flat base. Not a competition surface, but the most economical way to put a court into a space.
Flooring questions
What buyers ask before choosing a floor
Maple, birch or engineered timber?
Maple is the traditional squash surface: fine grain, consistent colour, holds markings well. The panel under the surface may use a birch plywood core, which is what keeps the board stable. What matters is the full assembly, not the species name alone.
How much finished height do I need?
Between 84 and 88 mm for the wood systems on this page, and almost nothing for PP tiles. That difference decides whether a fixed or demountable floor can be used at all in an existing hall with low thresholds.
Can the same floor host basketball or other sports?
Yes, within the limits of the surface and the room. Timber sports floors are used in multi-sport halls; if the court also hosts basketball, agree the marking scheme and line colours early, and check the clear height above the court for basketball play.
What does a demountable floor cost over its life?
More per square metre up front, but it can serve several halls or events. Compare against the value of the floor space you recover, not only against the purchase price.
Do you send an installation team to site?
No. We do not send installation teams abroad. Systems ship with drawings and a complete installation sequence, and our engineers support your own installer remotely — reviewing the layout, the layer schedule and the fixing sequence before and during the build. Start from the contact page with the court size and site location.
Next step
Send the slab and the sport list.
Tell us the court size, the finished height you can afford and whether the hall has to clear between events. We will shortlist the systems on this page to the one that fits.
